Bayern Munich has offered Manchester City Lucas Hernández as they speed up their effort to negotiate a deal for Leroy Sané. For more than a year, the Germans have been trying to keep ex-Schalke attacker Safe. Last summer, Munich came close to a contract-only for Germany to get a long-term injury in the Group Shield final. And now the Bavarians are offering Hernandez, 24, as a sweetener according to SportWitness.
The Frenchman can play at left-back or center-half and that will be important to City manager Pep Guardiola, who wants cover in each of those positions. Sane has made it clear that he wants to go back to Germany. Munich is planning to close the contract in July.
With only a year left on Sane ‘s deal, he is risked by city chiefs to see him out next season and then go on a free transfer. Only a year ago Hernandez joined Atletico Madrid for £72 m. But Alphonso Davies ‘s emergence means they can afford to lose the French defender.
Guardiola, after failing to replace Vincent Kompany, made a center-half of its top priority.
Compounding that, Aymeric Laporte has spent much of this season with injury on the sidelines.
Since an €80 m move from Atlético Madrid 13 months ago, Hernandez has struggled for fitness and form and the emergence of Alphonso Davies has made him a spare part at the Allianz.
He has now been offered to several major European clubs and has even been discussed for Sané in negotiations with Manchester City.
