Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel believes the club’s academy can be a huge asset to the club. He also heaped praise on Connor Gallagher and his loan spell at Crystal Palace last season. It was his fourth loan spell which culminated with him winning the Player of the Year award. He impressed Gareth Southgate who handed Gallagher his first international cap against San Marino.
“It was a very good start and a good match for him. Now it’s important he gets used to our principles of the game, to understand when to move and when not to move, and his work rate is outstanding,” Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said. “He can be a big asset for us. Conor trains at a really high level. You can clearly see it was the right decision to let him go on loan. He made a huge step in his development at Palace and became an England player.”
“Everyone wants to play as much as they can, but I’m willing to work as hard as I can to be on the pitch as much as possible,” Gallagher said. “There are world-class players in the squad and it’s obviously a tough team to get into but I feel like if that challenge is there, I think I’d be a bit silly not to take it.”
Meanwhile, Riyadh Mahrez was delighted after signing a contract extension with Manchester City. He has made 188 appearances for the club and has already won three Premier League titles.
“I’ve enjoyed every single minute of my time here. It’s a pleasure to be part of such an incredible club,” Mahrez said. “To have helped us achieve the success we have enjoyed in the past four seasons has been unforgettable and made us all hungry to look to achieve even more. Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful next season and beyond.”
