David Luiz responsible for the loss

The veteran defender admitted speculation over his playing future did not improve after a bad game on Wednesday. David Luiz took responsibility for Arsenal’s participation in Manchester City ‘s 3-0 loss and reiterated his intention to remain at next season’s club.

With his contract to expire at the Emirates at the end of the season, pundits have declared that there is no future for Luiz at the club but the man himself thinks differently.

Speaking after the match, the defender acknowledged he had to blame for his side ‘s loss and acknowledged that his future Arsenal needs had to be resolved with both the manager Mikel Arteta and him for a contract extension.

Luiz told Sky Sports, “It wasn’t the team’s loss, it was my mistake. The coach is great, all the players did well, it was just my mistake. Over the last two months, I should have taken a different decision. I didn’t-it was all about my contract. I don’t want to use that as an alibi or excuse, it’s just my fault and that’s it. I love being here that’s why I keep on training hard and that’s why I came here today. Nobody asked me to speak, it’s up to me to show my face.”

“I just want to stay. We are waiting for the decisions, the coach knows and wants me to stay,” he added.

Arsenal’s return to the action in the Premier League was a night to be forgotten with Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari, both forced from the field with injuries.

After the match, Arteta admitted it was a horror night for his side as he refused to throw Luiz for his performance under the bus.

On Luiz, Arteta added: “He is an honest and straight forward person. My opinion has not changed regarding David Luiz. It won’t change because tonight, he had a hard performance.”

Previously, Luis Filipe Vieira, president of Benfica, indicated that Luiz was close to signing a new contract with Arsenal as his club could not afford to sign the Brazilian.
