England defender Lucy Bronze is set to leave Manchester City when her contract with the club expires this summer. She rejoined the club in 2020 from Lyon after she played for them from 2014 to 2017. Bronze has made 111 appearances for the club and has scored 14 goals in the process. She has won the WSL title, the Continental Tyres League Cup, and the Women’s FA Cup during her first spell before being crowned FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year 2020 during her second spell.

“Manchester City would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Lucy for her contributions during her two spells at the club and wish her all the best for the future,” Manchester City said in a statement about Lucy Bronze.

“Manchester City didn’t offer Lucy Bronze a new deal, choosing instead to look at other options at the position and to free up space in their budget,” Anton Toloui said. “City has talented defender Esme Morgan, who is currently recovering from injury, to take Bronze’s place at right-back and the club is expected to make a number of signings this summer.”

“The departures of Georgia Stanway to Bayern, Caroline Weir to Real Madrid (when confirmed), Jill Scott on a free transfer, and Karen Bardsley’s retirement means there’s a lot of experience to make up for throughout the squad,” he added. “As for Bronze, she has an offer on the table from a Nation Women’s Soccer League club, but timing will be an issue. Bronze will be playing at the Euros through July and the U.S. regular season ends in October.”
