Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes said that strength in depth is behind the unbeaten run of the club after his brace enabled Brighton to see off.

Fernandes scored twice in the Premier League as in-form United outclassed Brighton 3-0 on Tuesday to extend their winning run to 15 matches in all competitions.

After the opening strike by Mason Greenwood, the January hire and former Sporting captain Fernandes stole the display with goals at the Amex Stadium in the 29th and 50th minutes.

United went eight non-defeat Premier League games to be fifth and two points ahead of Chelsea – facing West Ham on Wednesday with six matches remaining in the Champions League qualification race.

Fernandes, who scored five goals in eight league appearances, told MUTV: “In the last games, Scotty McTominay and Fred played well and we’ve had a lot of positive results. Now it’s Nema, Paul Pogba and myself, sometimes Andy Pereira or Juan Mata will play no.10 or Jesse Lingard. We’ve got a lot of qualities and I don’t think it’s fair to the guys who’re just thinking about me and Paul.

“We have so much quality and that’s getting higher as we’re working together and we’re pushing each other. I know if I’m not good, there’s going to be another player playing. And I need to be on the training ground at my best. To support the team, I need to be stronger and better. Everybody feels the same way and that’s why we play this way and the results are coming. We know we need to do our best and we have such good quality,” he added.

United have not tasted defeat since losing 2-0 to Burnley in January – holding 11 clean sheets – and Portuguese midfielder Fernandes has added: “You need to be concentrated and give everything to the squad, to the club.”
