Football News: Will Manchester United upset Liverpool on Monday Night Football and win?

Football News: 19th in the standings, without a point, doubts about the playing group, and a new manager who hasn’t yet adjusted to life at the club. On paper, Manchester United’s Monday Night Football matchup against Liverpool at home does not appear promising.

Erik ten Hag’s team is suffering right now after losses to Brighton and Brentford in their first two games of the year. The last thing United needs is one of the finest teams in the world to come to their stadium. If the results from last season are any indication, Old Trafford might see a tremendous beating.

On Monday, however, while the majority of the football world was discussing United’s disastrous condition, another surprise emerged in the form of Liverpool losing further points at home to Crystal Palace.

A victory for United on Monday night will not only ease some of the concerns but also move them over their toughest rivals on the table. Suddenly, Jurgen Klopp’s team is also without a win in their first two games.

Do Klopp’s Reds have a chance against this United team, which is lacking confidence on the field and is now ranked last in the Premier League?

Liverpool, however, is off to a terrible start

Many may find it unusual that Liverpool is losing points on a consistent basis so early in the season, but a pattern that dates back to last season may be to blame.

With the exception of the Community Shield victory against Manchester City in pre-season, Liverpool has lost eight of its last nine games in all competitions, including the goalless FA Cup final against Chelsea that the Reds had to win on penalties. In their last six Premier League games, they have also given up the opening goal.

Simply said, Liverpool has a propensity for sluggish starts to games. Each of the last nine games has followed a different pattern: either Liverpool concedes early and rightly falls behind (they have done so in four of their last nine games) or they fail to take advantage of their early dominance and concede against the flow of the game.

Since there are so many potential contributing components, the causes of this are unknown. Liverpool’s players may have been exhausted last season because they played 64 games, but it’s crucial to remember that they went the full 90 minutes of all but one of those games without losing, so they had the stamina to recover.
