By the news that the 2020 NFL London games have been canceled, a significant financial blow has been dealt with Tottenham.

On Monday it was revealed that the upcoming season will be played entirely in the United States, meaning that Spurs, who should host two matches, are out of pocket.

Fears over the coronavirus outbreak have led the NFL to ax the planned London games, the other two of which would have taken place at Wembley.

NFL scraps all four London 2020 matches planned for Wembley and Tottenham, reports BBC Sport. Two matches were planned for Wembley involving the Jacksonville Jaguars, with two more matches scheduled for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The matches will now be held in the U.S. after organizers have decided that due to the coronavirus pandemic it was impossible to arrange games on a foreign continent.

London’s games were planned for the fall of 2020 but no definitive dates had been set. This will be the first time since 2006 that an NFL regular-season game has not been played in London. Mayor Sadiq Khan of London said it was “definitely the right choice to ensure the health of anyone involved in the sport.”

While Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy said that they “excellently respect the NFL’s difficult decision to make.”NFL UK Managing Director Alistair Kirkwood added:” NFL’s London Games have become a big part of the NFL season and the UK sports calendar.

Yet the uncertainty of the current sporting environment and the tremendous amount of long-term travel and planning required to stage successful games in London mean this is the wise choice to make.’
