Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies keeps turning heads with his pace and has now welcomed his nickname Road Runner.

After a win over Borussia Dortmund and the Canadian again inspired Saturday, Thomas Muller jokingly called Davies Bayern’s “Distance Runner” midweek out.

The defender scored the last goal of his side in a 5-0 Fortuna Dusseldorf rout and did not shy away from post-game comparisons to his Road Runner.

“The cartoon I remember. I saw him as a kid. Yes, I’m fast. I took the [Muller] calling me Road Runner as a compliment. It’s for me a good nickname. I don’t think over the comments too much. Every day I come here and do what I need to do, and try to win as many games as possible. We had a difficult game Tuesday against Dortmund. We wanted to show the mentality and get the three points in this game too. We have done that,” said Davies after Saturday’s victory at Bayern.

Davies added to his goal: “It was very good. I did my defense job, moving hard, winning the ball, and knowing I could drive it in. I ‘m pleased.”

After the match, one of Davies’ defense partners, David Alaba, singled out the Canadian for praise.

Also impressed by Davies’ performance was Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, but noted his extreme speed can be both a blessing and a curse if not used correctly.
