Recently, Salah was seen dancing at his brother’s wedding, and now the Egyptian FA has reported the coronavirus contracted by the Liverpool star in what is another big blow to Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp has already seen defender Joe Gomez suffer a serious knee injury in England’s training during this international break, causing him to undergo surgery and keeping him on the sidelines for some time.
Salah is said to be asymptomatic but was the only one to test positive ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations against Togo from the Egypt squad.
A statement read: “The medical swab performed on our first national football team’s mission revealed that our foreign player, Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, was contaminated with Coronavirus after his test came positive… even though he had no symptoms… while the other team members were negative.”
Liverpool’s Premier League champions will now be without their top scorer and talisman for the giant Leicester City League leadership match at Anfield in eight days.
Klopp has already expressed concern about players flying in a global pandemic around the world and will no doubt be livid with Salah being the newest player to test positive on international duty for COVID-19.
Croatia captain Domagoj Vida played 45 minutes against Turkey on Wednesday before finding out he had tested positive for coronavirus before the game – while the Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Browne had a positive test after playing the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 loss against England on Thursday.
