Atalanta patron Antonio Percassi says he’ll call Josip Ilicic ‘before and after’ the game with Paris Saint-Germain, thinks goalkeeper Marco Sportiello should be given an ‘important chance’ and praises Papu Gomez as the ‘right captain.’
La Dea’s biggest match of the year is just around the corner and PSG is expecting quarter-finals in the Champions League.
Ilicic, the hero of the last 16 meetings with Valencia, will also not be there.
“I’m going to call him [Ilicic] before and after the match as if he’d play it too,” Percassi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Football Italia.
“I think I’m going to see him again on the pitch next season. In reality, I hope I can. Pierluigi Gollini struggles to get ready for the game against the French champions in time but Percassi believes that if he has it, Sportiello can take the opportunity with both hands. Marco is a great goalkeeper. I ‘d rather characterize it as a big opportunity than a destiny: if he’s doing well.”
When asked whether he thinks Atalanta would progress to the semi-finals of the competition, Percassi shifted the spotlight to captain Nerazzurri.
“Big Papu will drive us along. Nobody knows better than him and Atalanta and Bergamo and the importance of setting an example. He was here the ideal Captain.”
