Arsenal trailed Benfica 2-1 when Willian came on, but they went on to win the Europa League tie 3-2 on the day and 4-3 on the whole.
Mikel Arteta singled out Willian for “changing the game” against Benfica as Arsenal saved a dramatic win to advance from the last-32 Europa League tie on Thursday.
Aubameyang took the plaudits for his late goal, but Arteta thought Willian, who set up Tierney’s goal, was the Gunners’ true hero.
“Specifically, Willian, I think he’s changed the game,” said Arteta at his post-match news conference.
“In moments, he gave us a lot more calm, produced some imagination, produced Kieran’s goal and we need everyone on board.”
