Jeremie Aliadiere says Arsenal has no choice but this summer to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-even if it’s for a cut-price fee.
Gabon International is about to enter the final year of its deal in north London and an agreement is yet to be reached for negotiations on an extension.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Inter have all been linked to the top scorer from Arsenal, who has scored 61 goals in 97 appearances since signing in 2018 from Borussia Dortmund.
Head coach Mikel Arteta said he wants to retain the 30-year-old at ‘all costs,’ but Aliadiere, who won the 2004 Premier League with Arsenal, insists that a failure to negotiate fresh terms with the prolific forward leaves the club with no other choice but to cash in.
“They have to sell him, 100 percent,” the Frenchman told Goal.
“We can’t keep losing players on a free spot. To be honest, I can’t believe we’ve got a top star again, our captain, heading into the summer with just a year left on his contract.
“When he gets to two years, it has to be sorted for me. Last summer, he should have signed a deal or sold. Because when you get to one year left, there’s a difference in a player’s mind. You can not let a player end up with one year left on his contract, particularly a player like Aubameyang. That’s not all right. What, then, would we sell him for with one year left? Arsenal is in the worst position you can imagine because you’ve got a top-quality player that assures you of 20-25 Premier League goals for a season that’s a free year to go. And, it’s going to Barcelona and Real Madrid but when? So much would you now pay for him? Anything connected to what if you bid him last season. They might have asked for £100m.”
Aaron Ramsey became the next in a long line of big-name stars when he joined Juventus last summer to leave Arsenal on a free transfer.
