Despite not knowing the complete results of the club’s financial audit, president Joan Laporta has come up with a suggestion, according to Catalunya Radio.

According to ESPN, talks between Barcelona and Lionel Messi about a new deal are going well, with club president Joan Laporta meeting with the player’s father and agency. Messi has a first informal proposition from Barcelona on the table, which Laporta delivered to Jorge Messi during their discussion. The proposal detailed the financial terms on which the Catalan club is willing to pay the Argentine to stay at the Camp Nou beyond this summer.

According to an ESPN source, the discussion was quite encouraging. Messi, whose contract ends on June 30, wants to learn more about the club’s sporting ambition before making a choice.

Last month, ESPN claimed that Barcelona president Laporta wanted to offer Messi a two-year deal with a one-year extension option. The deal was to compensate for the pay cut that the Barca captain would have to take. If Messi agrees, he will have the option of staying at Barca after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar or moving to Major League Soccer.

Last December, Messi stated that “he desires to enjoy and experience life in the United States. He still believes so.

According to TV3, Laporta’s last contract offer would be a five-year deal that would allow the Argentinian to finish his career in the United States before returning to Barcelona as a club ambassador afterward.

According to sources close to the talks, Messi’s initial choice has always been to stay at Barcelona. Although doing so would necessitate a significant reduction in his salary, which is presently €70 million net each season. Nonetheless, the source claims that Messi will put the sports project ahead of the financial proposal. Laporta is considering several financial possibilities to put together a competitive squad.

Barca has already confirmed the acquisition of Eric Garcia as a free agent. He aims to seal the acquisitions of Sergio Aguero and Gini Wijnaldum in the coming days. Aguero’s contract with Manchester City expires in June. He has already agreed to play for Barcelona for the following two seasons based on a verbal agreement.

When Wijnaldum’s contract with Liverpool expires next month, he is set to sign a three-year agreement with Barcelona. Read more Barcelona News here.
