The Brazilian playmaker has not yet left the champions of the Bundesliga but has already seen the new signing of his squad number.
Hansi Flick and Manuel Neuer were pleased to welcome Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich on Friday but were able to turn their attention back to the DFB-Pokal final.
Bayern has confirmed Sane’s long-awaited arrival from Manchester City on a 5-year deal. But the Bundesliga champions have little time to reflect on their positive winger quest as they prepare to take on Bayer Leverkusen in Berlin in the second leg of their treble bid on Saturday.
When he plays for Bayern Munich next season, Leroy Sane will wear the number 10 jersey, which was previously Philippe Coutinho’s own.
When asked about his Germany team-mate Stable, Captain Neuer was slightly more honest, but his primary emphasis is on lifting another trophy. Of his latest contract, Flick said:
“We ‘re delighted, but it’s not time to think about it. I hope Sane will be able to win the Pokal in the future with Bayern” he said. “We players in Bayern are pleased next season he will be with us.”
Flick hopes to involve Niklas Sule back with the task of defending Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, another internationally connected Germany with Bayern.
Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz says his side can not rely on Havertz, 21, alone.
Flick alone decided that individual results wouldn’t determine the day, adding: “Both teams have really good players but you can’t be successful alone. You need some good effort from the team. We shouldn’t be thinking about who’s the top player.”
