Ben White revealed that he could not believe what was happening when he was called up to the England Euro 2020 squad. White was called up as a late replacement for Trent Alexander Arnold. The Liverpool defender suffered a thigh injury in England’s warm-up game against Austria. White mainly plays at center back and can provide cover in midfield if needed. He was not anticipating a call-up to the squad after making his England debut on Sunday.

“It’s been very surreal, obviously I didn’t think this was going to be happening,” Ben White said on his England call up. “I thought I was going to be somewhere hot, in Portugal or something like that. It’s mind-blowing really I didn’t expect any of this to happen, even being in the 33-man squad was enough for me. To make it to the final squad was unbelievable.”

“I got a call from someone at Brighton telling me the manager was going to call me and I was just waiting for the call.” he added. “I don’t think I’ve let it settle in yet. It’s something that I have never felt before, news like that doesn’t normally come around. I was just speechless really, and it felt amazing.”

England will open their Euro 2020 campaign on June 14 against Croatia. They will then play the other two teams in their group, Scotland and Czech Republic on June 19 and June 23 respectively. They will be looking to go one step further than their World Cup run in 2018.
