Diego Costa, a former Atletico Madrid, and Chelsea forward have been offered a €3 million-per-year deal by Benfica, according to Goal.
Costa is currently looking for a new club after Wanda Metropolitano granted his permission to terminate his contract at the end of December.
Benfica is now looking to bolster their attacking options by signing the Spaniard ahead of the 2021-22 season and has already reached out to the striker to work out a deal.
Costa is expected to sign a two-year contract with Benfica, meaning he will collect a total of €6 million (£5 million/$7 million) in salary if he goes to Estadio Da Luz.
The Portuguese club is also willing to pay the 32-year-old a €3 million transfer bonus, and he is keen to join because of the club’s illustrious past.
Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United were all said to be interested in signing the former Chelsea center-forward in the January transfer window.
However, no final agreement was reached, and since then, most of the clubs linked with Costa’s services have come from South America.
The Brazilian-born Spain international has been linked with Sao Paulo and Palmeiras, but Goal has learned that he would prefer to continue playing at the highest level in Europe.
