Billy Gilmour has revealed the words of support Frank Lampard has given him after his breakthrough game for Chelsea against Liverpool last month.
The 18-year-old Scottish midfielder delighted fans and pundits with both a professional display against the European champions, as the Blues kicked Liverpool out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win.
“I’ve always been thinking with what I was going to do when I went into the match,” Gilmour told Sky Sports.
“Then the gaffer said to me: ‘Go out and play your own game.’ This gives you the courage to go out and do what you do.”
“Playing in the game, there were moments I thought were tough but I felt good when I got on the pitch. I saw players running around and stuff made it easier. It was a fun, fantastic game and I was delighted to do well, and then winning the match guy was amazing.” “It feels good to get first-team exposure against Liverpool, the world’s best side right now.
As a youth, Gilmour says that he has gone beyond the strong examples of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, to the likes of former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas as he has furthered his talents.
