Thanks to a Roberto Firmino goal, Brazil outperformed Venezuela, which saw them stay as the only team in South America with a perfect record after three matches in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM qualifying, while Uruguay and Chile both put up a valuable three points on the board after victories over Colombia and Peru.

In Sao Paulo, Venezuela put in a brave effort but finally came up empty-handed as Firmino capitalized on the inability of La Vinotinto to clear a cross following Tite’s men’s superb build-up play and stabbed home from close range. The 100% record of Brazil remained intact, while Venezuela joined Bolivia as the only two teams left in the area in search of their first points.

Earlier in the day, thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, and Darwin Nunez to hand Oscar Tabarez his 100th win as Uruguay’s head coach, Uruguay bounced back from their loss by Ecuador last time out and dispatched Colombia with a convincing 3-0 win. Arturo Vidal scored a first-half brace – the first hit in the top corner of a wonder goal from outside the penalty box – and led Chile to a 2-0 victory in Santiago over Peru that saw them record their first campaign win.
