Bruno Fernandes says when the Premier League season begins back he ‘s excited about eventually working with Paul Pogba in the core of Manchester United’s midfield.
The Red Devils get their campaign back up and running against Tottenham on Friday night and the Portuguese midfielder joined talkSPORT for an EXCLUSIVE interview before their trip to north London.
Predictably, Pogba was at the center of much of the talk ahead of the showdown after five months on the sidelines, and whether or not fans will be able to see the midfielder back into action.
The World Cup winner made only eight appearances this season, playing his most recent game on Boxing Day, thanks to a recurring ankle injury, but the coronavirus hiatus allowed him time to fully recover. The recent team reports however suggested that Pogba could be benched against Spurs.
Fernandes was a revelation at Old Trafford, in Pogba ‘s absence. He registered three goals and four assists after his £47million arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January after the season had been halted.
It has been claimed that Pogba must ‘earn his way’ back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team after his return from injury. But, Fernandes insisted on talking sport the Frenchman remains one of the club’s best players and has expressed his excitement for joining up with him first.
A host of fans and commentators praised Fernandes to lift the mood at Old Trafford single-handedly. United are unbeaten in the nine games since his arrival from Portugal, and his immediate impact on the Premier League giants was compared with when Eric Cantona signed back in 1992 for the club.
The modest midfielder, however, maintains that he is just one of many Solskjaer’s squad members.
Fernandes also thanks fans from Red Devils for their support since coming to Manchester, saying he feels like he has never left his homeland in Lisbon.
