Caroline Weir scored a late equalizer against Canada to take the GB women to the top of Group E at Tokyo 2020. They had already secured their place in the quarterfinals with wins over Chile and Japan. Needing only a point to top the group they got off to a bad start with Adriana Leon scoring early in the second half. They battled and were rewarded five minutes from time. GB will now take on Australia in the quarters on Friday. Canada finished runners-up and will take on Brazil in the other quarterfinal.

Great Britain boss Hege Riise: “I believe strongly in this team, a great team always finds a way to come back and we did. Closer to the finish we started to get some momentum, luckily we were good enough to get the goal.” she added after GB women beat Canada. “It was an important goal (from Weir), we top the group, we’re staying here and have a little bit more rest so we are happy.”
