According to Sky in Germany, Bayern Munich is extending the loan deal for Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona until the end of the season.

After talks on Wednesday, the deal to extend the loan beyond June 30 was agreed, making Coutinho eligible for the Bayern’s Champions League campaign once it resumes in August.

Coutinho, who has scored eight goals this season in 22 Bundesliga appearances, is back in full training following minor ankle surgery.

Bayern has not taken up its option to permanently make his loan.

Barcelona is keen to unload the international Brazil, which they bought three years ago from Liverpool for £145 m, and sold it to several clubs, including Chelsea.

Coutinho ‘s lawyer, Kia Joorabchian, said his client would “respect” Sky Sports News to return to the Premier League, but challenged the financial conditions of all clubs following the coronavirus pandemic.

In the hope of striking a part-exchange deal for Lautaro Martinez, Barcelona has started offering players to Inter Milan.

The Argentine striker is one of Barca’s top targets this summer but the coronavirus’ financial impact means they ‘re unlikely to meet his buy-out clause of £97 m (€110 m).

Lautaro is keen to join Barcelona and there is no expectation that personal terms will be an issue.

Last August, Bayern wasted little time bringing the Brazil international to the Allianz, with the Bundesliga champions happy to cover his £11 m a-year salary, as well as an initial £8 m loan fee, before deciding whether to make his move permanent at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old arrived in Munich, spearheading the triumph of his country on home soil in last summer’s Copa America, only for a manager change and a failure to re-identify his best role in stymying his progress.

Coutinho was benched under Hansi Flick, who replaced Nico Kovac last November, with Ivan Perisic and Leon Goretzka instead preferring the new boss as he set up the team differently from his predecessor.
