Ivory Coast coach Patrice Beaumelle has revealed that Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is strongly considering his future with the national team. Zaha has five goals in his 21 caps has been left out of the Ivory Coast squad fr their World Cup qualifiers against Mozambique and Cameroon. Zaha switched allegiance to his country of birth in 2017 and is part of the host of players that will feature from the Premier League in the African Nations. However, his recent omission has cast doubt on his participation in the tournament.

“He (Zaha) asked not to come. He wants to reflect on the rest of his international career.” Beaumelle said about Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

The forward recently was subject to racist abuse following their win over defending champions Manchester City. He took to social media to post screenshots of the abuse he received.

“This message isn’t for me to get a million messages saying we stand with you and it’s disgusting or about me getting sympathy,” Zaha posted on his Instagram story. “I’m not here for all the nonsense that is being done instead of fixing the actual problem! I don’t mind abuse because nowadays it comes with doing the job I do even though it’s not an excuse but my color will always be the real problem but it’s fine because I’ll always be BLACK AND PROUD! Speak to me when you actually take this issue seriously.”
