David Moyes revealed that it has been a tough transfer window for West Ham with Alphonse Areola being the only transfer in along with Craig Dawson. Moyes led West ham to their best finish in almost a decade, securing Europa League football in the process. The scot has been frustrated not being able to add to his squad with the additional load of European football on the horizon.
“We are trying to add to the squad if we can,” West Ham boss David Moyes. “We’ve had and we’ve got some offers in for people but not everything is coming to fruition. We’ll do our best to add to the squad before the close of the window. It has been a difficult window because the market, in general, is very quiet. There has been money spent at the top end but it has been quiet overall. We hope to add to it. I don’t think West Ham supporters are frustrated, I think they’re realizing how good the team has been.”
Jesse Lingard was the standout performer for the Hammers last season. He joined them on loan from Manchester United in the second half of the season. Manchester United are not willing to let him go out on loan once again. They travel to Newcastle for their opening match of the season.
“We finished two points outside the Champions League last year so why should we not try and do that again?” he added. “Or even try and find those extra two points, so I don’t think anything changes here. We are going to go and try and play well. We did not start last season particularly well but we certainly grew into it. We had some amazing results and performances throughout the season.I think the players enjoyed it and there is a lot of confidence, so I hope from that point of view we can build on it and take it on again this season.”
