David Moyes believes that West Ham will look to build the team around one of the best midfielders in the world, Declan Rice. The England international produced a number of spectacular performances at Euro 2020 and is captaining the club side in its bid to reach the Champions League. Moyes explained he was not worried at all about losing Rice to any of Europe’s elite clubs.
“There’s not much better,” West Ham boss David Moyes said. “I think if you break Declan down, you might say: ‘Well OK, I want you to become even better in your passing’. So you can look at Frenkie De Jong or you can look at Jorginho. You could look at people who are really, really tidy football players. But then if you looked at the other side of the game, Declan’s as good as anybody I know at recovering the ball, and speed around the pitch. I can’t really think of many other midfield players like Declan in that mold really.”
“Rodri’s slightly different in how he plays in a different fashion. But Declan’s a wee bit of all-round, and certainly can do different things and he’s beginning to add goals to his game,” he added. “There’s probably not much better, but I think there are aspects of Declan’s game that he can improve. We want him to become better at so many things, but he’s been a revelation for us this season.”
