Former Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero slammed Juventus and Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s conduct after he threw the captain’s armband on the grass at the end of the 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Serbia (2:2).
“This is an exaggeration. He should not have behaved in that manner.”
“It’s normal to be furious, to talk in a loud voice, to debate such an episode with the judges – it’s normal, but to throw the captain’s armband and leave like this is too hard for a captain and an idol like Ronaldo,” Del Piero said.
“He will stay captain,” Santos says of Ronaldo. Cristiano is a role model for the whole country; he was the first to confess that he should not have thrown the armband.
Ronaldo, according to Santos: “He will continue to serve as captain. Cristiano is a role model for the whole country; he was the first to confess that he should not have thrown away the armband.”
In the 94th minute, Cristiano was denied a clean (and victorious!) goal. He was angry, shouting at the referee and hurling the captain’s armband.
