Christian Eriksen status has been updated following his collapse in Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener.

Eriksen collapsed on the ground in the first half of Denmark’s Group B match against Ukraine at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Saturday afternoon, requiring immediate medical attention.

The match was called off when the midfielder was taken off the pitch on a stretcher and sent to the hospital, where he was subsequently found to be conscious and in a stable physical condition.

Eriksen will stay hospitalized to undergo more testing, according to the Danish Football Association (DBU), though he has been in communication with the national team coaches and his teammates.

“We talked to Christian Eriksen this morning, and he has extended his welcome to his teammates,” says a statement on the DBU’s official Twitter account.

“His condition is stable, and he will remain in the hospital for additional testing. After yesterday’s events, the national team’s team and staff got crisis help and will continue to support one another. We would like to express our gratitude to all of the fans, players, Royal Families from both Denmark and England, international organizations, teams, and others who have sent Christian Eriksen sincere greetings.

We invite everyone to express their good wishes to the Danish FA, and we will ensure that they are delivered to Christian and his family.”

After the incident, Denmark was offered the choice of finishing their first Euro 2020 match later that day or on Sunday, and they selected the former, with the game restarting four minutes before half-time from the original stoppage point.

Finland went on to win 1-0 owing to a 59th-minute goal from Joel Pohjanpalo, with the Danes losing 1-0 due to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg missing a late penalty.

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand stated why his side opted to play the game two hours and five minutes after the scheduled start time, claiming that no one in the squad was ready to return home and recuperate after such a horrific occurrence.
