An agreement was reached in the early morning hours between the club and Manuel El Shaarawy, the brother and agent of the player, for the termination of the contract of the former Milan man reports romapress.net
The news comes less than 24 hours after both parties were pessimistic that ahead of the self-imposed deadline of this Sunday, they will be able to reach an agreement. After Manuel El Shaarawy landed in Shanghai earlier this month for the first time since December, the parties met nearly a dozen times.
In December, when the El Shaarawy brothers originally told them on 1 December that they wanted a permanent exit, the Chinese club was taken back so that il Faraone could return to Roma.
Since agreeing to meet after the New Year, those in the talks felt it would be almost difficult to reach an agreement provided that El Shaarawy’s contract only stood for 18 months.
Initially, Manuel El Shaarawy demanded that 3 of the remaining 18 months of his brother’s contract be paid by Shanghai Shenhua, a proposal that the club immediately refused. El Shaarawy continued to lower his assertion, but Shanghai remained adamant that if he decided to dissolve the deal, they would not pay any of the player’s remaining wages.
Late last night, the El Shaarawy decided to renounce all of the remaining money left on the contract, which contributed to the breakthrough between the sides being found today.
The 28-year-old is already on his way to the Italian capital to undergo his medical exams with Roma tomorrow and will sign a 2.5-year deal with the club.
However, Roma will be required to pay Shanghai Shenhua a limit of EUR 5 million in compensation based on appearances and goals scored. He will rejoin on a free transfer.
