Barcelona can start talks with the teen sensation Ansu Fati on a new long-term club contract, Goal can confirm.
In the past week, the 17-year-old wonderkid again hit the headlines, becoming Spain’s youngest debutant in the match against Germany since 1936, before scoring on his first start against Ukraine to become the nation’s youngest ever goalscorer.
Discussions over a new deal for Fati are likely to have begun if not for the saga surrounding Lionel Messi’s future, with the Guinea-Bissau-born attacker’s current agreement set to expire in June 2022.
Sources inside Fati ‘s camp told Goal that the player is happy to stay in Barcelona but he needs guarantees that he can make his way to first-time regular football.
Super agent Jorge Mendes, who has been booked for meetings in Barcelona over the next few days, will be handling the contract negotiations with Fati.
It is known that in the new contract proposal Barcelona wants to increase the player’s current release clause from 170 million euros to 400 million euros.
Owing to his ability and talent, Fati has been associated with Messi after his meteoric rise over the last 12 months.
