One of the stars of the opening week of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 was Kylian Mbappé. Without Neymar Jr. and Ángel Di María, the 22-year-old went camping Nou and scored a hat trick as Paris Saint-Germain walked away with a 4-1 first-leg win over Barcelona FC.
The Spanish hand, however, should have had the French international set up this master class night for them. Barça decided to replace Neymar Jr., who left for the French giants in 2017, and Mbappé was an option to replace his aspiring teammate.
They eventually decided to deny him and agreed to go to Ousmane Dembélé during an interview with El Partidazo de COPE’ and Radio Marca, according to Junior Minguella.
Yeah, it was that way; I can confirm it. Now more than ever, because it’s already confirmed by some boss and given his version of the story, it’s real,’ said Minguella.
The football agent went on to say that because of him being a better fit team-wise, Barça favored Dembélé. Besides, others have called Mbappé a ghost inside the club.
“The technicians and the president, who do not want to skip them, have doubts about the player they want to incorporate at the moment when Neymar’s move to PSG was confirmed,” Minguella said. [Barça] claims that they are better than Mbappé for the kind of team play suitable for Dembélé. Some went so far as to suggest that Mbappé was a ghost, that against which this boy had drawn.”
Minguella also mentions an arrangement that was in place to go to Barça for Mbappé, but that deal never materialized.
We closed the deal with an offer of EUR 130 million-plus 25. Mbappé will receive between 10 and 16 million euros, said Minguella.
If Barça weren’t too stubborn to ignore Mbappé’s talent, the outlook for PSG may be different.
