The Football Manager’s confusion once caused Bolivia to threaten to name Ruben Aguilar-now he has his first real chance with France.
Monaco full-back Ruben Aguilar got his first call-up to the French squad for their upcoming triple-header.
Born in France to a French mother and a Spanish father, Aguilar claimed in 2017 that Bolivia’s seemingly unfair attempts to persuade him to represent La Verde had put him in an awkward position.
He thought it was the result of an error in the computer game database of Football Manager, which he said gave him dual French-Bolivian nationality.
After good performances with Montpellier at the time, Aguilar gained significant attention on social media from Bolivians and also became a subject on TV, with requests for interviews from the South American nation coming in.
Aguilar occupies the roster spot vacated earlier on Monday by Houssem Aouar, who sustained a weekend injury for Lyon, according to the French Football Federation.
