Brighton required penalties during an eventful day of third-round play in the FA Cup to defeat League Two Newport County.

When Solly March whipped past the amazing Tom King with a wicked effort, Brighton thought they had won it in the 90th minute. When Adam Webster diverted the ball into his net, Newport equalized, however, six minutes into second-half stoppage time.

With 52 league positions between them, extra time could not separate the two teams at kick-off, meaning penalties had to settle matters.

After five spot-kicks each, the scores were level at 2-2, sending the shootout to sudden death.

The game was finally determined in the second round, when Webster made up for his previous error by rolling home the winning penalty, taking advantage of Scott Bennett’s miss.
