Derby County boss Wayne Rooney laid into the officials after Cardiff produced one of the narrow football results of the weekend in the Championship. Uche Ikpeazu scored the only goal of the game in the 85th minute to deny Wayne Rooney and his men a valuable point. Ikpeazu had hit the woodwork twice before redeeming himself.
Cardiff’s Steve Morison: “I wanted the new contract. I had done the job that was asked of me to the best of my ability. It all happened pretty quickly today. It was something the board wanted and I’m really grateful to Vincent [Tan] for backing me and I’m pleased we backed it up with a win. With the weather, it was a great night to play football. But we didn’t deserve that tonight – we weren’t at our best. There were a lot of tired minds and bodies with the week we have had and the illness we have had in the camp. But that’s how far we’ve come.”
Derby’s Wayne Rooney: “I have been [unhappy with the officials] for the majority of the season. It is very frustrating because we’ve got a group of very good, young, honest players who have given everything and we’re getting spoken down to and not getting decisions. I asked the fourth official after the last game why they don’t give us any decisions. Is it something that is getting spoken about because of the situation we are in? I don’t know. I think it is a clear foul.”
