Milwall drew their third consecutive game against Coventry in one of the expected football results of the weekend in the Championship. They took the lead in the ninth minute when striker Viktor Gyokeres dribbled into the box before firing his shot into the bottom corner. Milwall then equalized in the 21st minute when George Saville’s shot deflected into the net. They thought they were going into the break with the lead but Tom Bradshaw had his header ruled out for offside.
Milwall dominated the game after the equalizer but it was Coventry that should have regained the lead when Gyokeres ran down the left-wing and crossed to Matt Gordon. He completely missed the ball after which Todd Kane shot wide. Just before halftime, Grokeres once again found himself in space but could not manage his effort on target.
Millwall’s Gary Rowett: “I think if I look at the last two games (against Swansea and West Brom), I felt second-half in both games we looked stronger physically than our opponents. I think we probably deserved more than two draws. Today, first-half aside, second half I changed formation three times and it didn’t make any difference.”
Coventry’s Mark Robins: “It rounds off a really good week for us. This game could have gone either way. I think you could see by the results up and down the country today how this game is so difficult and how much it takes out of you.”
