Newcastle produced a fighting performance against Leeds United in one of the surprising football results of the Premier League. The 1-1 draw though was not much help to Steve Bruce after a poor start to the season. Raphinha opened the scoring in the 13th minute when his cross missed everyone and nestled into the bottom left corner. Alan Saint-Maximin scored the equalizer for Newcastle on the stroke of half-time with a moment of magic after skipping past two defenders.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce: “I enjoyed the game and let’s be honest it could have gone either way. It was like when you play at school, it was end to end and to be fair to Leeds they force you into that way. After a difficult start, the actual game and response from our team were terrific.”
Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa: “We had sufficient chances to go in at the break with a bigger margin, but we didn’t score in proportion to the number of chances we created. We were missing some efficiency and capitalizing on the chances that we had. We had a lot of possession, perhaps we could have created even more dangerous especially in the second half.”
