Takumi Minamino scored a brace to help Liverpool secure one of the expected football results of the Carabao Cup. Norwich missed a golden opportunity to equalize but Christos Tzolis had his penalty saved by Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The match between both the Premier League sides had a total of 18 changes by both managers combined.
Liverpool was off to the best possible start when Minamino fired them ahead after four minutes. Divock Origi scored his first goal in almost a year while Minamino put the game to bed with his second goal of the night.
Norwich boss Daniel Farke: “We wanted to win the Carabao Cup and now we can’t. I am disappointed with this.” he added. “I love this guy and he will be an important player for us in the future, and in general he had a really good performance, but believe me, in the dressing room, it is clear that this never happens again. He has done a mistake in his career once, and believe me, we will make sure it never happens again. He has apologized.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Minamino: “Footballers want to play, that’s clear. He was with his national team, got injured, and was then not fit so it was not like he didn’t play for 60 weeks.” he added. “It was the time after the injury but Taki is in a really good moment, training well and deserved the two goals.”
