Ben Brereton Diaz scored his 14th goal as Blackburn and Bristol City produced one of the evenly contested football scores of the weekend in the Championship. It was the hosts that went in front after Callum O’Dowda got at the end of a through ball by Andreas Weimann. His shot deflected past the keeper. With 15 minutes to go. Brereton Diaz made the hosts pay for a poor clearance by Tomas Kalas. The hosts would have secured all three points had it not been for a brilliant save by Thomas Kaminski in the Blackburn net. Ayman Benarous was handed his first start by manager Nigel Pearson.

Managers Reaction

Bristol City’s Nigel Pearson: “The performance showed where we are as a team. We probably should have been out of sight by halftime. Not enough of the chances we create are being finished and that leaves us open to paying for one mistake at the back, which happened today. We are relying heavily on a lot of young players. That is the club’s policy and one I endorse as manager.”

Blackburn’s Tony Mowbray: “Ben Brereton-Diaz deserves all the superlatives being said about him this season. He has been away with Chile’s squad working with world-class players, but there is not a hint of the big-timer about him. I love working with him because he is such a nice kid. Today he has had one goal narrowly ruled out for offside and come up with a tremendous finish.”
