Blackpool came from behind to beat Middlesbrough and produce one of the unexpected football scores in the Championship. The win kept the visitors out of the bottom three where they started the day in. Middlesbrough opened the scoring when Marcus Tavernier scored in the eighth minute. Marvin Ekpieta then scored the equalizer for the visitors after an hour with a brilliant touch and finish to match.
In the 78th minute, Grant Hall, unfortunately, put the ball into his own net to give Blackpool their second win on their return to the second tier of English football. Their own goal prevented the hosts to secure back-to-back wins after they beat Nottingham Forest comprehensively in their last game.
Middlesbrough’s Neil Warnock: “It wasn’t a foul, simple as that. The referee was pretty consistent in not giving fouls but that was not a foul in a million years. Having said that, you still have to defend the goal. I think the free-kick is played and nobody runs across to it, I think it was Isaiah Jones. The cross then comes in and Dael gets turned, I am disappointed to concede like that.”
Blackpool’s Neil Critchley: “Two wins in three has been a good week. I thought we were fantastic today. To be 1-0 down early, against a strong team like Middlesbrough, with the crowd behind them, we could have gone under but we didn’t. We tried to take the game to them, which is difficult.”
