Maxwel Cornet scored a brace for Burnley as they were involved in one of the high-scoring football scores of the weekend in the Premier League. In a match between two sides at the wrong end of the table, both were desperate for the three points. Cornet opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he scored from a Matt Lowton cross before Tino Livramento equalized just before the half-time whistle. Armando Broja made it a second in two games when he finished after getting on the end of an Ibrahima Diallo through ball. The hosts dominated the game but it was Cornet who scored the equalizer and last goal of the game.

Southampton head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl: “We may be had a better first half, even after conceding an early goal. We found the right answers and had more chances. After half-time the message was clear, to find the second goal. But then we did not have so much control over the long balls and the defending was not good.”
Burnley manager Sean Dyche: “I’m pleased once again with the performance level, but obviously disappointed with the mistakes. Our mentality to try to win the game was quite obvious. We’re still searching for the win but we’ve got to maintain these performances and there were certainly good signs today.”
