Patrick Bamford has revealed that Kalvin Phillips can produce something special for England during Euro 2020. Bamford’s Leeds United teammate, Kalvin Phillips was picked by Southgate in his 26-man squad. This was despite the fact the Phillips suffered a shoulder injury on the last day of the season. He has seven caps to his name and will look to add a few this summer. In spite of the competition in the middle for England, Bamford has backed Phillips to make an impact.
“Every time he goes out there, he gives 100 percent. I’ve seen the way that he’s grown as a player and he’s turned into one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.” Patrick Bamford said when asked about the England squad for Euro 2020. “Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice are top players, which shows the strength, but I think that Kalvin can definitely offer something special to that England squad. Nothing really fazes him to be honest. He’s a really laid-back kind of lad, in terms of not letting the pressure get too much for him. But when it’s game time, you’re not taking him out the zone.”
Patrick Bamford was set to earn his first call-up to join his teammate but failed to make the cut of the final 33-man squad. Bamford scored 17 goals in the league this season, helping Leeds United to a top half finish. This was Leeds first campaign in the top flight for more than two decades. He admitted that despite the disappointment of playing in it, he is looking forward to the tournament.
“I’m a fan so I can’t wait for the games to get started,” he said. “I’ll probably end up watching every single match, not just the England games. We’ve got such a strong squad. I’m thinking England can win it. There are some other strong teams. The players, we’ve got, we’re in for a very good chance.”
