Fraser Forster has emerged as a summer priority for Chelsea according to Football Insider and their sources. The goalkeeper from Southampton, who is currently back on loan to former Celtic side, is expected to cost about £ 10 million, with the Saints willing to listen to offers for English international.
For a while, Fraser Forster was regarded as a strong contender in the English National Team to be the first choice. But, he was not kind to injuries and he failed to earn the trust of current Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. The former boss of RB Leipzig chose to field Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy’s likes.
Celtic are keen to make this summer’s loan move permanent. But, with Chelsea entering the fray, their chances could take a hit … Frank Lampard is willing to see the rest of the 2019-20 season out and give Kepa Arrizabalaga the next 9 games to prove himself, according to reports.
If he fails to do so, Chelsea could look into the prospect of bringing in a new first-choice maintainer or a worthy challenger, at least because unloading Kepa under current market conditions will result in a huge loss to their world-record fee.
In the recent past, Chelsea has been linked to a few titles. But Forster may be the ideal target, particularly with Lampard targeting large signatures and already spending heavily on reinvigorating the options to strike. Hakim Ziyech is expected to arrive in the summer, with an agreement with Timo Werner in effect.
Forster is likely to cost around £ 10 m according to the report, which is more than fair between the sticks for an experienced customer. It could be a massively positive decision for Chelsea though. There would be no hurry to unload Kepa as they don’t spend heavily on the stopper in Southampton while the Spaniard would have a replacement if his form continues to dwindle.
It will also be a less risky choice and allow them to review things at the end of the next season. Forster may be enticed by a return to Premier League action and while rejoining Celtic is an emotional and lucrative choice permanently, Chelsea will certainly be financially more enticing while also having a higher level of competition.
Although Chelsea has recently targeted long-term signings, this could be one deal that piques the interest of the board in the summer.
