After his last-gasp victory in Serie A, Gennaro Gattuso had some advice for Napoli. Gennaro Gattuso maintained that Napoli could not always be stunning like Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, as he urged his side to be a “bit ugly” like him.
Thanks to Tiemoue Bakayoko’s 90th-minute winner in Serie A, Napoli claimed a last-gasp 2-1 victory at Udinese.
With a 15th minute penalty, Lorenzo Insigne opened the scoring to climb level with Careca to seventh place on Napoli’s all-time scorer’s list in Serie A (73) and seventh place in all competitions (97).
Kevin Lasagna of Udinese equalized 12 minutes later before Bakayoko ensured that Napoli bounced back from their shock loss to Spezia at home.
In Serie A, Napoli is sixth, 9 points behind AC Milan and manager Gattuso told his team to get down and dirty.
“I don’t get angry with my players for their technique, it’s when they don’t smell fear. I think we are a team who repeatedly don’t spot the danger when it’s coming. I want to see a team that keeps going,” said Gattuso to Sky Sport Italia.
“I don’t want us to lose an opportunity, so I see the defenders begin to complain to each other instantly, oh we missed a goal, that means we’re forced to concede one. No! We’ve got to work as a team.
When we’re under pressure, we have to improve, because I know I don’t have a side that can suck up pressure for years, it’s not our style, but we can do better than we are now. You can’t tell me that it’s not possible to improve or coach attitude. I don’t believe it. I don’t believe it.
I was upset by what happened to Spezia because the ball came off the post, we had five ball-watching players, and Tommaso Pobega responded faster. That is an unacceptable lack of determination.
Napoli wants to always be beautiful, but sometimes being a bit ugly is a good thing. You can’t always be Brad Pitt, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Sometimes you have to be a bit ugly, like me. I look worse than usual now, as I’m all puffed up due to the cortisone shots, but I feel better.”
