On Wednesday, Chelsea football club announced goalkeeper Willy Caballero and striker Olivier Giroud have extended their contracts by one year. The contract extensions will keep the two players at the club until the end of the season for 2020-21.

The announcements were made in rapid succession and about the extension, Caballero said, “I’m pleased to make this announcement. It’s a pleasure to be part of this Chelsea squad and the Chelsea family at one of the Premier League’s most iconic clubs. It’s a tough time for everyone right now and I feel privileged with this opportunity and appreciate the opportunity. I would like to thank my team-mates for helping me be my best and I would like to thank the manager and the club for extending my contract. I’m sure they will keep demanding the maximum from me and I’m going to be competing with the same energy as ever. I’m so happy.”

Giroud and Caballero to stay in Chelsea until the end of the season

The 38-year-old joined the Blues from Manchester City in the summer of 2017, where he had spent three seasons. He made 13 appearances at Stamford Bridge in his first campaign and has made nine appearances this season.

Giroud, on the other hand, said, “I’m pleased to continue my journey and adventure at Chelsea. I can’t wait to return with my team-mates to play and enjoy competitive football. I ‘m looking forward to wearing the Chelsea shirt again, particularly in front of our fans at a full Stamford Bridge, whenever it’s safe to do so.”

Coach Frank Lampard, on the other hand, said, “Since I was back in Chelsea, Olivier has been brilliant as a professional and as a man in general. He has great qualities to help the squad both on and off the pitch, not only with his talent but with the example he sets every day and the experience he brings to our young squad. I’m very pleased that next season will continue.”
