Graeme Souness believes that Leeds defends like they were on a playground after a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal. The pressure on manager Marcelo Bielsa increased after a second consecutive defeat following the 7-0 thrashing by Man City. In the team’s defense, they were without nine players due to injury and the coronavirus. Leeds have conceded 14 goals in their last three games in the Premier League.
“I just don’t know how you can expect your players to play like that. For Martinelli’s second, Cody Drameh is running forward into Raphinha’s space and he doesn’t sense the danger. I don’t want to be unkind to him, but he must look over his shoulder and see Martinelli.” Graeme Souness said about the Leeds defense. “Leeds weren’t in total possession of the ball. Leeds play like they are in the school playground. Leeds is an absolute shambles.”
“Arsenal will never have an easier away game this year. In the first half, they could have scored six or seven goals. Leeds was so disjointed and making defensive decisions which will take some understanding. They took their foot off the accelerator in the second half and won easily.” he added. “This is what mystifies me about the game tonight. We keep talking about young players, but I’m not sure if it was just about young players doing their jobs tonight because of some decisions the senior players were making… it’s all about their attempt to play.”
