Hansi Flick, manager of Bayern Munich, said he could “understand” why Liverpool targets Thiago Alcantara are keen to transfer to the Premier League.
The president of the German team, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, announced last week that Thiago wants to leave the team to look for a fresh chance elsewhere.
Liverpool is the strong favorite to sign Spain international, though Paris Saint-Germain can also bid the midfielder for £ 36 m this summer.
With only one year left on his contract with Bayern, Flick has accepted that he will have a good chance to lose one of his star men in the coming weeks.
“When a player thinks of a pass I can understand,” he told Sport1.
“Thiago played in Spain for FC Barcelona, and in Germany for FC Bayern Munchen. If he wants to play in the Premier League now, I completely understand that, but it would be a shame because Thiago is giving us some extra. I would like to keep him as a mentor for the next few years, but that is life. It is going on.”
