After joining up with his Tottenham team-mate to great effect in the Europa League, Son Heung-min said he enjoyed playing with Gareth Bale.

After being given a rare start in the Europa League on Thursday night, Bale impressed for Spurs, recording a goal and an assist as then north Londoners won a 4-1 victory against Wolfsberg in the first leg of their round of 32 ties.

The Real Madrid loanee got the cross for Son to head home Tottenham’s opener, and after the final whistle, the South Korean was full of praise for the Welshman.\

“I have a close relationship with him,” Son said of the post-match Bale.

“I’m very happy he’s getting game time and scored a goal and got an assist. I enjoy playing with him.”

In the meantime, Bale was pleased to be among the goals during a mostly disappointing second spell at Spurs that saw him struggling to make an impression on Mourinho’s squad.

“We had the mindset of coming to score as many goals as we could and get some confidence,” he told reporters.

“We haven’t won much lately, obviously, so it’s crucial to get a win to build confidence. Hopefully, this is the start of a successful run. It was fun [to score]. I just chopped and hit it inside. To support the squad, it’s great to get on the scoresheet.

Nice to get four goals away. Winning a game by that margin is always good. We’re going to take the second leg as if it were 0-0.”

Since winning the Puskas Award for Best Goal in 2020, Son has made his first appearance at the iconic stadium in Budapest.

“In the first half, we showed a positive attitude and scored three goals. The guys had a positive attitude.

Fans of Tottenham will hope that in the final third, Son and Bale will manage to deliver the goods as they take a ride to London Stadium to meet West Ham on Sunday.
