Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he is pleased to see Mario Mandzukic added to AC Milan, joking that there are now two-goal scorers who can strike fear into opposing defenses.
As the Swedish star fired twice to lead 10-man Milan to a 2-0 victory over Cagliari, Ibrahimovic’s impressive start to the Serie A season continued on Monday.
The goals were his 11th and 12th goals of the season, within just eight games Ibrahimovic hitting the goal mark.
With the club set to sign former Juventus forward Mandzukic on a six-month deal, the Rossoneri will have another forward choice to count on soon.
And that signing, as well as the addition of French midfielder Soualiho Meite from Turin, is seen by Ibrahimovic as a boost for a club that is already scoring a lot in Serie A.
“I am very happy,” Sky told the Swedish striker. “There will be two of us to scare the opponents now!”
He added: “We’re doing well so far. We’re almost halfway through the league and the games are beginning to get harder now.”
“It will be a very tough season, but now with Mandzukic and Meite, and I don’t know if others will arrive, we will have more players available for the coach that can rotate in.”
Meanwhile, Milan boss Stefano Pioli says he is eager to see the rivalry going forward between the two veteran strikers.
“Ibra said he would take care to keep him at bay,” joked Pioli after the match. I’m pleased, they want Milan back on top, the club is ambitious. The arrival of Mandzukic goes into that scenario.
“We need many players, given the many commitments and crucial issues of this season.
I also tell them that it is not the number of minutes that counts, but the consistency.
“I immediately said yes when the club suggested it to me, I spoke to him, he’s very motivated, he’s the winner”
On Monday, Ibrahimovic set a new personal best, as his two goals ensured that he found the net for the first time in his career in nine consecutive starts in a top-five table.
