Bengaluru FC of the Indian Super League (ISL) is expected to sign Kerala Blasters midfielder Rohit Kumar for the 2020-21 season, Goal can confirm. Read more about ISL here.
Last season, the 24-year-old footballer signed a long-term deal with Kerala Blasters after leaving Hyderabad FC. However, after one season with the Blasters, he agreed to voluntarily end his contract and join the Blues.
Under the guidance of Spanish coach Kibu Vicuna, Kumar made 11 appearances in the ISL last season, starting six of them. The midfielder made 17 tackles, eight interceptions, four clearances, and five blocks in those 11 games.
During the 2016/17 season, Rohit Kumar began his professional career with the now-defunct I-League team DSK Shivajians. Kumar left the team the next season and joined ISL club FC Pune City. He spent two years with the Pune-based club before moving to Hyderabad after the club folded after the 2019/20 ISL season. Kumar only played for the Nizams for one season before joining the Kerala Blasters.
Kerala Blasters had a disappointing season in the 2020/21 ISL, finishing second to last on the points table with 17 points from 20 games.
Bengaluru FC, meanwhile, had a forgettable season, finishing seventh in the points table, their lowest league position ever. This was the first time the Blues have missed the playoffs since joining the ISL in 2017/18.
Bengaluru FC’s first signing this summer will be Rohit Kumar. A talented midfielder who will expect to get more playing time with the Blues next season.
