Inter striker Romelu Lukaku received acclaim for his role in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A victory over Bologna yesterday after scoring the game’s only goal.
After bundling in halfway through the first half, the Belgium international scored his 20th league goal of the season at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, as Antonio Conte’s team climbed eight points clear at the top of Serie A with a game in hand.
According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Lukaku was the star performer. He won a 7 in the newspaper’s player ratings for his all-around performance as well as his target.
Alessandro Bastoni received the same award for his decisive cross that set up Lukaku, who swung in a marvelous delivery to crack the deadlock. Forwards Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez were the next top-ranked players, both with 6.5, while only Milan Skriniar, Nicolo Barella (both with 5.5), and Achraf Hakimi (5) were rated less than 6. Conte, the Nerazzurri’s coach, earned a 6.5 for his performance from the bench as Inter won their ninth league game in a row.
Romelu Lukaku Thanks Coach Antonio
After winning the Scudetto, Inter striker Romelu Lukaku thanked head coach Antonio Conte.
Lukaku told La Gazzetta Dello Sport, “I’m willing to fight to the death for him. We didn’t get to work together at Chelsea. But I still felt I’d be better off after leaving Manchester United for him. He made it plain to me. ‘If you don’t perform in school, you don’t play.’ It is important for professional learning to meet people who can tell you straight out what they think. It has happened to the true winners, Eto’o, Drogba, and Henry.
I am delighted not only for all Inter fans around the world. But also for the players, the coach, the club, and the president. This is my favorite season yet. This is the most successful season of my career. I’m hoping we’ve begun a winning streak with Inter.”
