Jamie Carragher believes that Man Utd can beat Liverpool with the momentum from their Champions League comeback against Atalanta in the Champions League. United came back from two goals down with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a late winner. A loss would have severely dented their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition. After a first half to forget, an electric atmosphere was the catalyst for a second-half comeback.
“I could see Man United winning this game,” Jamie Carragher before Man Utd take on Liverpool in the Premier League. “I think certainly on the back of what happened on Wednesday night, the atmosphere will be fantastic, especially at the start of the game. Man United at home against Liverpool notoriously, going back 10 or 15 years, they’ve had Liverpool’s number in the fixture. Liverpool has found it really difficult to win at Old Trafford and going back a long time, even the great Liverpool teams, it’s always been a venue Liverpool have struggled at.”
“Even in Jurgen Klopp’s time, I think he’s only won there once so it will always be a tough game for Liverpool no matter what the circumstances are or the quality of Man United,” he added. “But there’s no doubt that going into the game, Liverpool is a better team. They’ve proven that over the last few years and at the start of this season and if Liverpool plays well, that could be enough to win. But even if they do win this game, it will be very tight. Man United have got great players, they’re at home with a great atmosphere against a club who notoriously don’t do well in this venue.”
