Jesse Lingard has opened up on his struggle during the 2019-20 season, claiming to have lost his sense of identity on and off the field.

The 27-year-old posted a frank review of his struggles on Instagram, writing: “This season has been tough, for so many reasons. I’ve forgotten who I was as a player and person, but I never chose to give up, I knew who I was on and off the field, and I wanted to get back there. This involved doing harder than I had ever done before and lost confidence in those around me, as they knew how to better help me in doing so. I know the fans were disappointed, but this whole time, my love for this club and everyone involved never left me. This team, this club is my family, and I’m going to work harder than ever to help this squad attaining its goals.”
